Marielle Tawil
LMSW. Individual & Couples Therapy
I am a licensed psychotherapist who works with both individuals and couples. Much of my work is with people navigating OCD, anxiety, and relationship challenges. Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of working closely with the LGBTQ+ community, and I remain committed to creating a safe, affirming, and inclusive space for all of my clients.
My style as a therapist is authentic and open. I believe that entering therapy—sharing your inner world—requires feeling safe, understood, and connected. My first priority is to build a trusting relationship where you feel free to explore and express all parts of yourself.
I view each person as the expert of their own experience. At the same time, I recognize how our unconscious lives often shape us in ways we don’t always see, sometimes surfacing as pain or conflict. Within that pain lies the possibility for growth.
Rooted in psychodynamic theory, my work invites reflection and insight into both the conscious and unconscious parts of your experience.
I am licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Florida, and see clients in person in New York.

About Me
Education
Master of Social Work
Columbia University
I obtained my masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University where I was taught and trained in evidence based practices for psychotherapy. As a social worker, I use a holistic approach that considers the interconnectedness of individuals within their social, cultural, and environmental contexts.
Bachelor of Arts
New York University
At NYU, I majored in English and American Literature, and minored in child and adolescent mental health studies. My academic work has always involved a curiosity and concern toward the human psyche. Literature has existed as a form of expression and a vehicle for connection since the beginning of well, literature. The facets of expression and connection are integral parts of any therapeutic process. My work as a therapist now, still connects back to the curiosity of connection and creativity of expression through literature.
American Institute for Psychoanalysis
Alongside my practice, I am engaged in advanced training at the American Institute for Psychoanalysis (AIP). Psychoanalysis emphasizes careful listening to both the surface of our stories and the deeper patterns underneath them. This way of working enriches my practice and allows me to accompany clients with greater depth and understanding.
Additional Training
Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD, with advanced training in Rumination Focused ERP (RF-ERP)
I have completed training in ERP with the Cognitive Behavior Institute and pursued specialized training in Rumination-Focused ERP under the guidance of Dr. Michael J. Greenberg of OCD Associates. RF-ERP identifies rumination as a central compulsion in OCD and helps clients reduce cycles of intrusive thoughts and overthinking. By integrating these evidence-based methods with psychoanalytic perspectives, I work to address both symptoms and the deeper emotional and relational patterns that contribute to anxiety, helping clients regain a greater sense of agency
The Gottman Method for Couples Therapy
I have completed Level 1 training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, a research-based approach that helps couples strengthen their connection. In our work, this means focusing on clearer communication, building deeper emotional closeness, and finding healthier ways to navigate conflict together.
